Dr. Reisman of Amstelland Hospital in Amsterdam will be presenting his study on the effect of treatment of non bacterial chronic prostatitis with TURF on sexual disorders: a pilot study.  The presentation will be displayed at the upcoming Congress of the European Society for Sexual Medicine to take place November 14 to 17 at the Trade Fairs and Congress Center in Malaga, Spain.

Non bacterial Prostatitis has an adverse effect on the quality of life and is also associated with the appearance of sexual disorders (SD).  Following a three month follow up, treatment with the Tempro device by Direx showed a 78% improvement of pain symptoms related to CPPS as well as significant improvements in sexual disorders like erectile dysfunction, painful ejaculation and loss of desire.  Dr. Reisman concludes "By treating CP/CPPS with thermal therapy of the prostate some sexual disorders showed improvement".

DARTFORD, ENGLAND – Three years ago, Darent Valley Hospital added lithotripsy treatments through a partnership with DirexGroup, with European headquarters in Wiesbaden, Germany, to serve those patients suffering from kidney stones.  After an upgrade to the newest Direx, dual head, electromagnetic Duet Magna lithotripter, Darent Valley Hospital has elected to continue and expand on their relationship with Direx hoping to treat a larger number of patients in the years ahead.  “We have been very pleased with the equipment and service received from Direx," stated Alex Tan, Director of Surgical Services for Darent Valley Hospital. “We expect our patient volume for this treatment service to continue to grow and we needed the right equipment in place to do so.”  Darent Valley Hospital uses the Duet Magna lithotripter from Direx, the only dual head shockwave lithotripsy system on the market.  “The dual head approach allows us to treat patients more effectively and with less discomfort than other lithotripters on the market,” stated Mr Sriprasad, urological surgeon at Darent Valley. “We plan also to add an ultrasound unit which will allow us to treat additional patients.  We have been very pleased with the fragmentation results we have achieved with the Duet Magna over the past three years.”   The Duet Magna is a favored lithotripter in the industry as it allows for great flexibility.  Hospitals can use existing C-arms for xray imaging or purchase the C-arm of their choice.  This is also true of treatment tables, as Magna works with most tables on the market today.  The dual head feature has been shown to significantly reduce kidney damage while increasing the effectiveness of stone fragmentation. “Darent Valley is a very progressive hospital and a strong reference site for our company in the United Kingdom”, reported Niv Ein-Gal, Chief Operating Officer for DirexGroup. “They provide a perfect setting for our equipment as they are always looking for ways to improve their treatment environment for their patients.  We look forward to our extended contract with Darent Valley Hospital and look to expand to other UK hospitals.”

The first UK paper on the use of Double Shock Wave Lithotripsy was presented at the World Congress of Endourology from October 6-10 in Germany.  Dual Electro Hydraulic Lithotripsy safety and efficacy was further reinforced by updated clinical data submitted by Darrent Valley Hospital, Dartford UK. The Dartford NHS hospital replaced its mobile service for a permanent lithotripter, in accordance with their commitment “to providing high quality medical and nursing care, making every effort to ensure that our patients receive the very best treatment, attention and care.”
Initial treatments were with an Electro hydraulic version of Dual Shockwave Lithotripsy and in the last six months treatment was administered by Magna, the newest Electromagnetic Dual Shockwave Lithotripter by DirexGroup.

A second paper was presented by Dr CH. Beck and Dr. A. Beck on Tempro BiPolar Radio Frequency for Chronic Prostatitis.   This is  a new application of  Tempro  Bipolar Radio  Frequency technology  to tackle a very complex medical  condition which leads to poor quality of life. Their supportive conclusion is “Considering that Chronic Prostatitis is a challenging illness, these initial results, with an overall success rate of 43% are very encouraging”.  Following this initial success, additional Tempro centers have started to offer this innovative treatment for their patients.

Direxgroup will launch its newest developments, the electromagnetic Duet Magna lithotripter and the Tempro RF thermal therapy system , at the BAUS congress to be held at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC), Glasgow, from June 23-25, 2009.

Duet Magna is a unique lithotripter combining two shockwave sources and electromagnetic technology. The Magna DSWL (Double Shock Wave Lithotripsy), produces a unique "Butterfly" Focal Volume proven to reduce significantly kidney damage compared to all single source lithotripters which produce "Cigar Shaped" Focal Volume. In Cigar shaped Focal Volumes, only the central part contributes to stone fragmentation  whereas the distal and proximal areas contribute only to kidney damage. The Butterfly focal area is a closer approximation to a spherical focal area which is the Ideal Focal Volume to treat stones.  In addition, DSWL divides the total energy reaching the stone into two different volumes, so that half of the energy reaches the stone from an Upper Volume while the second half comes from a Lower Volume.
Direx introduces Chronic Abacterial Prostatitis / CPPS  treatment with Tempro Thermotherapy System.  Tempro, a thermal therapy device that treats symptomatic BPH and Prostatitis, provides prostate thermal heating by delivering Radio Frequency  power to the prostate tissue, via an applicator located in the Prostatic urethra. A  computer controlled Bipolar RF generator delivers its power to a special multi-electrode applicator. Safety is assured by measuring  continuously the maximum temperature using 3 sensors.

Chronic Abacterial Prostatitis / CPPS is a common, bothersome syndrome in men which is poorly defined, poorly understood, and poorly treated.

Direx-Initia started an effort for treatment of this illness using thermal

therapy and is presently conducting a multi-site study for Chronic

Abacterial Prostatitis patients at centers in Europe and Asia.

The NIH Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index and the Quality of Life

Index are used to evaluate the severity of symptoms and further

improvements. Initial results are encouraging and will be presented

at the upcoming EAU Congress in Stockholm March 17 to 20.
